Mrs. Dries began working at St. Joseph Hospital while still in high school and graduated from the hospital's school of Medical Technology in 1950. She also attended Siena College. Her work as a med tech blended with a lifelong interest in art. Away from work, Mrs. Dries made ceramic figures including Christmas villages and Nativity sets that were cherished by friends, family and people she never met. She also made dolls, wedding plaques and sewed. The certainty of medical science and the intimacy of creativity fulfilled her and gave her a full life. She didn't regard the ceramics or dolls as art, but she shared them for all of the same reasons that motivate the best known artists. Three years after beating pancreatic cancer, the cancer returned and took its toll. Mrs. Dries was a parishioner at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Mrs. Dries, the widow of Eugene Arthur Dries, leaves four children, Eugene A. Dries, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Nashville, William T. Dries of Memphis, John P. Dries (Barbara) of Collierville and Jeanette Margaret Smith (Russell) of Memphis; two beloved grandsons, Neal Dries and Matthew Smith; a brother, Paul Acerra of Memphis and a sister, Mary Frances Lovell of Memphis.
