Mevacor is a cholesterol-lowering medication which used along with diet, to lower cholesterol levels in people with primary hypercholesterolemia (too much cholesterol in the bloodstream). It works by that blocking the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body.This medicine may also be used to prevent certain types of heart problems in patients with risk factors for heart problems .

Dosage and direction
Consult with your doctor before using. Use no more than was prescribed.
Commonly dosage for adults is one tablet containing 500 milligrams of extended-release niacin and 20 milligrams is 20 milligrams once a day, taken with the evening meal. Take each dose with a full glass of water/milk. Do not crush or chew the tablets, swallow them all. The maximum recommended dosage is 80 milligrams per day, taken as a single dose or divided into smaller doses, as determined by your doctor. Commonly dosage for children 10 to 17 years old is 10 to 40 10-40 mg taken once or twice daily. Girls must have been menstruant for at least 12 months before starting therapy with Mevacor.
